Totalitarianism is a state regulation of nearly every aspect of public and private behavior. Joseph Stalin was able to take control of Russia after the death of Lenin. He first rose to power in the year 1922 as a leader in the communism party. Lenin was the head of the Soviet Union. Once in power he became a totalitarian dictator. Stalin was in full control of Russia. He had so much power that he controlled the media and only allowed information that he wanted to let the people know out. Stalin didn't allow that much freedom to go through Russia. He would kill anyone who went against him. Stalin introduced Russia to a five year plan to industrialize it because Russia was a farm based society. He also introduced the "Great Purge" which meant the he killed all the people of the communism party that brought him to his power.

Film Lesson: Doctor Zhivago

In the film Doctor Zhivago; Doctor Zhivago depicted the Russian Revolution as a way for the Russians standing for what they believed in. There were some reasons that the Russians wanted a change. One reason was the unfairness in the government of Russia. The government was unfair because it was under the control of the Czar. Another one was the lack of food and money in Russia. So much money was put in for the support in WWI. Food was also lacking because so much food was sent out to the troops.
The filmed depicted communism in a way to join forced with political leaders to overthrow the Czar government. When doctor Zhivago returned from the war he noticed something weird about this home. Since his house was so big, his house was used to support about 15 families in it. Right there it should communism. Doctor Zhivago had to share his house among the poor people which meant everyone was equal.

Causes of WW I

World War I was first known as the Great War. It was named the Great War because of the fact that so many countries had different rolls in this War. The war began in 1914 and lasted till about 1918. There were six major countries in Europe in which took part of this "Great War". These countries were Germany, Italy , Austria-Hungary which were the triple alliance against France, Britain, and Russia which were the triple entente. The were many causes of WWI which included Franz Ferdinand, Collapse of the alliance system, and Militarism.
It all began with the assassination of Franz Ferdinand who was like the president of Austria. Franz Ferdinand and his wife were assassinated on June 28, 1914 by a Serbian nationalist. This sparked a big conflict between Austria-Hungary and Serbia. The Serbians wanted to be self governed like Austria-Hungary. With the death of Franz Ferdinand Austria declared war on Serbia on June 28, 1914 with Germany as an ally.
WWI also caused conflict on Militarism. With the advancing of new weapon technology the different countries suffered more loss of soldiers. With advance weaponry the guns killed off many more opposing troops. Guns such as more advance machine guns. They also had tanks, planes, cannons, etc. With these new modern weapons the percentage of deaths in wars increased.
Another conflict of WWI was the collapse if the triple alliance. Since they had lost so much in the war such as deaths, money and land they did not stay together for long. They blamed Germany for the many conflicts that they had taken into state because of the war. With the lost of the war Austria and Hungary separated into two different countries.
